Intel's new hexa-core Core i9 Processors to be Lauched Q1 2010

Several partners and sources close to Intel have recently been known to address the upcoming 32nm Gulftown 6-core monster as Intel Core i9. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, considering that the company is structuring its Core lineup to feature odd numbers, beginning with its dual-core lineup also known as Core i3.

As we’ve mentioned several times before, the 32nm Gulftown 6-core (or hexa-core) chip will launch in 1H 2010 as the first chip in the Westmere family, the successor to Nehalem. Intel Core i9 will appeal to a highly enthusiast market niche, as it is based solely on socket LGA 1366 and retains compatibility with the X58 chipset which isn’t going anywhere in the foreseeable future.

From a clearly analytical perspective, Core i9 Gulftown can be viewed as Core i7 + 2, with six physical cores, a total thread count of 12 and a 50 percent L3 cache increase over Core i7 Bloomfield. We should also remind enthusiasts that Gulftown will not include an IGP core alongside the 32nm CPU, so nothing changes on the graphics front.

AMD set to launch 2.7GHz 95W hexa-core processor

AMD’s Phenom II X6 processors have been a huge success for the company and there are reports they are prepping a new low-end model to be released this quarter. The new chip is dubbed the 1045T and will come clocked at 2.7GHz with a 3.2GHz Turbo Core speed, have 9MB of total cache and a 95W TDP.

Even with this new chip expanding the current Thuban lineup, the AMD 1090T will remain the fastest hexa-core offering for now, but we should start to see more options coming from AMD toward the end of Q1 2011.

For the time being there’s no word on pricing, or even if the processor will be available as a stand-alone product outside of pre-built system, but a six-core CPU with a 95W thermal envelope, retailing for less than the $199.99 1055T would make for one amazing budget option. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until September before we know if the 1045T will be available to DIY system-builders, or if it will end up like the 1035T and only be found in pre-built PCs.
